This fixing kit is used to make the fitting of the LS01 through wall mailbox easier and neater. However it does require a degree of welding, drilling and cutting of the existing railings. It is not necessary to use our railing fixing kit when fitting your Kingsbury letter box into railings but it simplifies the job as the fixings are shaped to fit our letterboxes and make installation very much easier.

Rear wall fixing kit

LS01 Letterbox Dimensions
![]() |
These are the dimensions of the front casting of the LS01 Kingsbury rear retrieval letter box.
|
![]() |
Shown below are the Kingsbury depth dimensions..Dimension A is the depth of the extremes of our standard size Kingsbury mail boxes. Dimension B is the distance between the insides of the front and back castings. Dimension
Dimension A, we can manufacture the Kingsbury letterbox in any depth from 169mm to 950mm
|
![]() |
Rear access door dimensions.
|
![]() |
Letterbox container dimensions.Dimension D will vary depending on the size of the letterbox supplied. For a standard 9 inch brick wall, this will be 230mm. For the Kingsbury mailbox, this dimension is 15mm more than the depth of the wall or pier. The reason for this is because an extra 5mm is required to fit into the front and rear castings in addition to an extra 5mm allowed for building tolerances.
We can manufacture custom depth letter boxes with a container depth from 117mm to 900mm
|
Brick Pier and Wall Dimensions.
![]() |
Standard Metric BricksAll of our brick wall and brick pier dimensions are based on metric bricks which are very much the standard these days here in the U.K. We can manufacture other size letterboxes to suit imperial bricks, rendered concrete blocks etc. but our standard size cases are based on the metric brick. These are the dimensions of a standard metric brick.
When fitting the LS01 the dimensions of the individual bricks are not super critical, the overall width and thickness of the brick wall or pier are the important dimensions. |
![]() |
Brick wall and pier sizes at a glanceThese are the dimensions of the most common depth brick walls and piers.
Note the imperial sizes used for the above are not the actual sizes of the pier or wall, they are just historic references used. The accurate dimensions are the metric ones given. |
|
|
Standard 9 inch or double brick garden wall. This is the most common depth for a garden wall. The term 9 inch wall could be misleading as it suggests that the wall is 9 inches (228mm) deep. The term 9 inch wall refers to a wall which is 215mm and not 9 inches deep.
Note that the rear of the Kingsbury mailbox slightly overhangs the back of the wall. We manufacture our through the wall letterboxes with a 5mm tolerance to allow for the fact that bricklaying is not as accurate as metal fabrication. |
|
|
1 ½ brick garden wall.Brick walls this depth are not common. They are also known as 13½ inch wall (or pier). A Kingsbury rear retrieval letterbox to suit a 1½ brick wall is offered as standard
Note, as with all of our through wall letterboxes a building tolerance of approximately 5mm is built in to the depth of the mail collection box. |
|
|
1 ½ brick pier.As can be seen from the image of the Kingsbury LS01 through wall mailbox, a 1½ square brick pier is not suitable for this model. This rear retrieval letterbox will fit into a 1½ brick deep pier but the width of the pier needs to be at least 2 bricks wide (445mm) We manufacture a narrow letterbox especially designed for a 1½ brick pier or a narrow rendered brick pier. Search our website for the LS21 Chard letter box. |
|
|
2 brick pier. This size pier is probably the most common size. Also known as an 18" pier. We offer a Kingsbury rear retrieval letterbox to suit a 2 brick pier as standard.
Note, although the 2 brick Kingsbury through wall mail box is offered as a standard size, the bricks on the left and right sides will need to be shaved by about 20mm to allow the letterbox to fit. See image below. If this is not possible then we do offer a narrow letter box with a smaller letter plate which will fit with no modifications. |
|
|
2 brick pier.A 2 brick pier showing only the central sleeve of the LS01 Kingsbury collection box.
The hollow section inside a 2 brick pier is approximately 241mm. The Kingsbury collection box is 275mm wide. Therefor the space within the pier would not be enough for the letterbox to fit. To overcome this and allow the Kingsbury LS01 mailbox to fit within the centre of the pier, the thickness of the bricks either side of the collection box need to be reduced from 102mm to approximately 80mm. This will allow the collection box to fit within the pier. |
|
|
2½ brick pier. The 2½ brick pier is a reasonably common size pier. Also known as an 21 inch pier. We offer a Kingsbury rear retrieval letter box to suit this 2½ brick pier as standard.
A Kingsbury mailbox fitted into a 2½ brick pier has enough space at the sides to run cables for an electric light or doorbell. |
|
|
3 brick pier.A 3 brick pier is quite a large size pier, it also known as a 27 inch pier. The Kingsbury rear collection mail box is available in a 3 brick pier size as standard.
There is a good deal of room either side of the collection box to run cables for an itercom or a carriage light for example. |

320mm wide, 470mm long, 320mm high. Weight 7.6kg
Letterbox dimensions:
295mm wide, 425mm high, 287mm deep, (front to back from the extreme of the letter flap to the extreme of the back door hinge of the standard depth mailbox). The overall depth can be reduced to approx 167mm and extended up to 967mm.
Components:
The front and rear castings including the door and letter flap are cast from 100% pure LM6 grade aluminium in English foundries. The main body is made from sturdy galvanized steel. To ensure it's long lasting appeal, these components are thoroughly cleaned and primed before being treated and coated in a durable top quality low bake enamel in a choice of colours. All additional components (excluding the lock) are made from solid brass or stainless steel. Our fine letterboxes are fabricated and assembled by hand in our Nofolk workshops.

In basic form, the Kingsbury rear retrieval letterbox consists of front and rear castings with a centre sleeve. The front casting has a main body and outward opening flap. The flap is hinged by 2 stainless steel pins. Fitted into the front casting are rubber stoppers to prevent the flap from making contact with the casting. The rear casting consists of the main casting and a upward hinged door. Like the front casting, stainless steel pins are used to hinge the door which is fitted with a tough steel lock.
The aluminium used in all of our castings is LM6, this is a high grade and more expensive aluminium which contains silicates to make castings with a high resistance to corrosion and is well suited for outdoor use.
Located between the front and rear castings is a sturdy galvanized steel sleeve which forms the letterbox container. Rubber seals are fitted to either end of the centre sleeve to prevent any chance of rain or moisture getting into the secure mailbox compartment.
The front and rear castings along with the centre sleeve are locked together with four stainless steel studs and nickel coated brass T-Nuts. The studs are screwed into the front casting and T-Nuts are used secure the back casting. A nylon washer between the T-Nut and the rear casting prevents the T-Nuts marking the casting.
We only use high quality materials to build this high quality letterbox which is manufactured entirely in England.
Simply put, we use the best materials, pay attention to detail and produce high quality letterboxes designed to last.

LS01 Fitting instructions
Disassembling the LS01 rear retrieval letterbox
Sometimes it is necessary to dismantle your letterbox to fit it. For example into a wooden fence or an existing brick pier.
Below are the instructions for dismantling the LS01 mailbox.
![]() |
Exploded view
|
![]() |
Step 1 Place the letterbox face down on a bench or table using a soft cloth to protect the front casting. Use the 4mm Allan (hex) key to undo the TNuts (G) in each corner of the back casting. Ensure that the hex key is fully inserted and turn anti-clockwise to release the TNut. The stainless steel stud (E) may remain attached to the TNut (G). If so then withdraw the stud and leave the TNut attached to the stud. Store the nylon washer in a safe place. Repeat for all four TNuts. |
![]() |
Step 2 Seperate the front and rear castings (A & D) from the centre sleeve (C). See exploded view. Ensure that the rubber seals (B) remain properly fitted to the centre sleeve. Studs which remain attached to the front casting will need to be removed. Unscrew the stud by using a pair of grips or pliers to turn out the stud. Grip the stud in the middle as shown to avoid damaging the ends of the thread. Replace the TNut (G) onto the stud by screwing on 2 turns only and store ready for reassembling the mailbox.
|
Assembling your LS01 rear retrieval letter box
![]() |
Step 1 If the letterbox is just being assembled and not fitted then position the front casting face down on top of a soft towel on a bench or table and work upwards. Otherwise you will need the help of an assistant to hold the front casting in place whilst the letterbox is being assembled. Ensure that the rubber seals (B) are correctly located and fitted to the centre sleeve (C) then push the centre sleeve into the front casting. You will need to support the centre sleeve until at least 2 of the studs have been screwed into place. |
![]() |
Step 2 If not already done, place the washes on each of the 4 studs and screw the TNuts a couple of turns onto each stud. Ensuring that the rubber seal is properly in place, locate the sleeve into the rear casting. Whilst still holding the rear casting in place, Insert the 4 studs into the fixing holes and locate them with the female fixing points of the front casting. Screw the studs in a couple of turns by turning the stud clockwise between your fingers. After all 4 studs have been located, working in a circle, tighten the 4 TNuts using the 4mm hex key a bit at a time until the letterbox is secured. Do not overtighten the TNuts as this could damage the rubber seals.
